The Intrinsic Safety (IS) protection technique is for the safe operation of electrical equipment within hazardous areas. This is achieved by limiting the available energy for ignition, and this technique simplifies circuits whilst also reducing installation costs when compared to other protection methods.

This prevents the occurrence of sparking in or any hazardous area equipment from overheating.
