Product Description<\/span>
\nThe Melt Flow Index is a measure of the ease of flow of the melt of a thermoplastic polymer. It is defined as the mass of polymer in grams flowing in 10 minutes through a capillary of specific diameter and length by pressure applied via prescribed alternative gravimetric weights for alternative prescribed temperatures as specified in the ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 Test Standards<\/span><\/p>\n

The Melt flow rate is an indirect measure of molecular weight, a high melt flow rate corresponding to a low molecular weight. At the same time, melt flow rate is a measure of the ability of the material’s melt to flow under pressure. Melt Flow rate is inversely proportional to the viscosity of the melt at the conditions of the test, though it should be borne in mind that the viscosity for any such material depends on the applied force. Ratios between two melt flow rate values for one material at different gravimetric weights are often used as a measure for the broadness of the molecular weight distribution.<\/p>\n

Melt flow rate is commonly used for polyolefin\ufffds, polyethylene being measured at 190\ufffdC and polypropylene at 230\ufffdC. The end user should choose a material with a melt index so high that he can easily form the polymer from its molten state into the article intended, but on the other hand so low that the mechanical strength of the final article will be sufficient for its use. Although not a fundamental property of the material, the MFI is one of the most widely used parameters for the quality control of polymers<\/p>\n

Model 6MPCA – Melt Flow Indexer.<\/span> This Melt Flow Indexer measures the Melt-Flow Rate (MFR) and Melt-Volumetric Rate (MVR) of the polymer under specified conditions of temperature and load. The MFI results are expressed as g\/10min and the MVR is expressed as cubic cm\/10min.The multi slicing features provides 20 test results over the selected travel distance, density at test temperature, viscosity and shear stress are also given. Statistical analysis includes averages and standard deviation. Data entry is simple using the touch membrane keypad and LCD display. Last test parameters are stored in the microprocessor memory for operator convenience. The 6MPCA comes Fully Microprocessor controlled as standard , RS232 serial output and “Tecni-Test” Software so results can be displayed on the LCD screen as well as downloaded to an external PC for graphical and tabular presentation.<\/p>\n
