The herringbone gearing, a double helical gearing where the entire toothwork is milled, hardened, and ground as one workpiece, is manufactured by Eisenbeiss. It is a special-purpose gearing for compressors which enables the machine to achieve the maximum power density in a minimum space. 3D CAD systems and computing algorithms were used in designing the machine.
